After watching "the Plan", I got to thinking about our beloved BSG. I was staring at my computer and it dawned on me. Evolution and competition. Microsoft PC vs. Apple mac. Every competitive industry has at least 2 leading corporations that invent and market successive products over and over.
Think about Caprica and the origins of the Cylons. There were competing military defense companies vying for the Caprica Cylons program right? Greystone had to steal some competitors a.i. software to help his prototype Cylon model.
Flash forward to the first Cylon War. Now, those competing companies that had been designing their own versions of the Cylon model prior to Greystone's winning bid, were still around right?
If the Greystone model evolved and then rebelled and became your worst nightmare, I would argue and ask, why didn't Greystone's competitors strive to finish working on their own Cylons models but working to make these Cylons programmed exclusively to kill Greystone's Cylon ( that are now the rebelling arch enemy of man ).
Compare this argument to today's society.
PC dominant market still has an alternative competitor. namely Apple. PC's evolved and became the dominant computers but Apple persisted and also evolved and now are just as advanced and some ways, superior to their arch enemy, the pc's.
The Colonials, I argue, should have continued their work on what they created, the Cylons. when the Greystone Cylons evolved and rebelled. That way, during the First Cylon War, the Colonials could have used their New Cylons to decisively win the First Cylon War.
Remember, MAN created the Cylons. The Cylons didn't create themselves. Therefore, MAN ( i.e. the colonial humans ) still had the technological know how, ability and means to create another Cylon version, especially when their first version morphs into their own worst nightmare.
MAN created the artifical intelligence also.
Another topic to ponder. When exactly did the Cylons rebel and what prompted them to rebel? (* all we know is they were treated as slaves and one day they rebelled ). The original history tells us that the first Cylons were not the soldiers ( the Centurions. first gen. Guardians models ) but rather they were robots that were purposely designed to help mankind ( servants, skilled laborers and used in places where it was physically dangerous for people to be, like mining and such ). Then the individual colonial planets began using their Cylon models for military ventures and the military leaders purposely had these Cylon soldiers programmed to be more self reliant b/c that translated into easier battlefield decisions and victories. Then the Cylons' artificial intelligence evolved to their rebellious ways.
The new show Caprica disregards this history and opts to throw away the original Cylons, choosing to make the first Cylons, the military Centurions.
But when do the Cylons rebel and why? I'm looking forward to "Caprica" to see just that answer hopefully.
