Will this be available online after the original air-time? I may not be able to listen then.

So, can anyone please give me a breakdown of what was discussed/revealed?

Thanks!

Here is what Shaunomac, host of S2D, said on the SCI FI BSG board:
Thank to KR for his second State of Galactica address!! It really gave me a renewed sense of excitement over BSG.

We gave KR a great music accompanyment and it made the speech all the more powerful.

To listen to it, go to http://www.MEDIABLVD.com and you will see the box with Subject 2 Discussion and its the most recent program and KR comes on in the second hour.

Thanks to KR once more!!!

KR, I have a small disagreement with your logic in your statment:

"Remember SG-1. The producers were told before the midseason break that the tenth season would be their last. RDM would have received the same treatment"

I would like to state that is not entirely true. Yes SG-1 Was told before the midseason AIRING break. Most episodes of the latter half of season 10 were either A. In the can B. In the middle of being produced or C. Pre planning and ready to get made.
Only the last 3 episodes were not written yet. Hardly a way to "tie up loose ends" and finish a story. And any spoiler will tell you, the SG-1 overall Orii arc will not finish in season 10.

So what does this mean for Galactica? I whole heartedly agree that cancelling BSG before a S4 would be terrible and suicide for SciFi (and NBC/Universal) so I do see a renewal in store. Itunes has helped carry extra viewers but I wonder if the numbers being pulled there are equal to the lower ad revenue they can get away with in a 4th season.

However even with the best of situations, shows do get cancelled. Many channels (including scifi) have cancelled many shows before an "endpoint" was developed. Even though it was originally in syndication, look at Babylon 5. Before seasons 2, 3 and 4 started they did not even know if they were getting renewed when they finished work on the previous.

Until we hear an official word, it still can go either way.

Well now, unofficially both Kenn Gold of MediaBlvd and I have been told by reputable (and quite separate) sources this week- as a matter of fact- that BSG has been picked up for a Season 4.
It is only a matter of time until we hear the official word.

KR,

I can't listen to Shaun show on real time now. Fortunately, I finally caught up with the State of Union broadcast. You did mention something about the number of episodes in Season 4. Any early indication that it's going to remain a 20 episode season or a condensed 13 episodes one? Personally I like the arrangement in Season 2 - a long 20 episode season but with the break in between it's like two 10 episode seasons. Let me say this, there was less controvesy about the quality of season two (except a couple episodes) vs. the current season.

This news is early, but apparently while the "Rapture" ratings were around 1.4, which was of course opposite an AFC championship footbal game, the ratings in the new sunday slot for "Taking a Break From All Your Worries" jumped back to 1.9, which would mean it has surpassed the Season 3 premiere's ratings and equaled those of the Season 2 finale.

More updates as I get them, five by five.

The increase in viewers was maybe 10 to 11 percent. If you apply the same percentage increase to the 1.4 rating you get 1.5 maybe 1.6.
KR now says he predicts a 20 episode order. I think that a smaller number is more likely. What may well happen is that the order for 20 will consist of a small number that will actually be produced and then if ratings warrant another small order will come leaving an out for Sci fi if ratings tank. Up to 20 ratings contingent episodes could be made
