But they're bouncing between 13 and 22 eps? S2 & S3 each have had 20 eps. I wonder if the 22 eps is 20 normal + the 2 hour DVD movie. No mention of the DVD movie in the article.
Hmm. Just checked SciFi, nothing on the bsg website yet. Still waiting for the final announcement. Don't know where this goes. GA has its own episode reviews and transcripts and I understand they are hard at work getting them updated. The Battlestar wiki ( http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki ) also has very extensive disussion of each episode. SciFi.com has been putting up video recaps of each episode (though they are only available before each ep--I think) and they have been putting whole episodes up intermittedly. And you can see part or all of most of the eps on YouTube. -------------------- "It is worse than a crime; it is a mistake." -- Tallyrand, 1804 |

tv movie sounds intriguing but I cannot help but feel its a money spinning ploy to fund the 4th season SciFi has the official announcement up. I would humbly suggest that SciFi's announcement is worthy of inclusion as a News thread. -------------------- "It is worse than a crime; it is a mistake." -- Tallyrand, 1804 |

Ewwww. January 2008. And I thought the 6 month wait after "Pegasus" was hard. At first it was ok, but towards the end it became harder.
However, we've been spoilt with SciFi. These long hiatuses are normal for cable television. Moreover, with having Season 3 in one go, it was to be expected. Before we just had 2 smaller breaks instead of one big one -------------------- "Bright, shiny futures are overrated anyway" - Lee Adama, Scar

If the number of episodes in increased to twenty episodes, then it'll probably start earlier than next January. Doubt it. SciFi realized that running the show during the fall did not work. No matter the episode total, the show will not be back until Jan. (unless we see a Summer come back with Atlantis) -------------------- Einstein is my lab partner

Though will the 2 hour movie appear maybe sometime between the spring and January 2008?

With any luck they will bounce BSG back onto the screens fast after the season four run to pick up the episode count like they did after season one..still waiting till Jan 08 for the start of the run is going to be painful.

At times in series three there have been episode like “Hero" and Unfinished Business " that did not advance the story line. There was also the issue of the Cylon virus which did not really go anywhere.
My feeling is if they have only 13 episodes and nearly a year to shoot them every episode can be really good and tight so they will not need to have the stories garbled because of the cut and deleted scenes. I am hoping that this will be a case of less is Moore! |

In Season 1 not everything advanced the story either.
Continuity is important, but it's become nothing but a tiresome obsession, when people think that the story has to be advanced in huge ways in every single episode. Episodes of a more standalone nature can be good as well. It's just a matter of their execution. Just as arc-episodes can be bad. Personally I prefer a few of them to huge arc episodes. Not just with BSG. And I prefer when time is spent on characters, instead of them being brushed aside for "story". So, thanks, but no thanks. The number of deleted scenes is sad, but that's because the episodes are just 42 minutes. BSG would be better if it ran on premium cable, where episodes can easily be 50-60 minutes long. Nothing to be done about that on SciFi -------------------- "Bright, shiny futures are overrated anyway" - Lee Adama, Scar

I think it is not a question of story; it is the need for each episode to be connected in some way with the next which makes it BSG and not just an episode that could have been done on any story. An example of what I am trying to say is “Heros”. Some one was introduced for that episode who was important for Admiral Adama back story. We see him in that episode and then it is as if he never existed and the episode never happened. That I find unsatisfactory and I would argue is contrary to the BSG ethos where acts are supposed to have consequences .If the clock is reset at the end of an episode and it is as if the episode never happen that is not what I understood Ron Moore was trying to do. If we are not careful we will start getting episodes which are just a dream and/or just a holo deck simulation! |

We see him in that episode and then it is as if he never existed and the episode never happened. You feel that the actions in "Hero" (not Heroes) don't have any ramifications on the story as a whole? How about Adama's personal guilt? Tigh's acceptance of his loss and his reasons for moving forward? And who is to say that we wont see Bulldog again? I would counter that every episode (even if it doesn't deal with you believe the greater arc is) plays a major part of the entire story. To me the greater story is that of humanity's struggle to survive. Everything else is just gravy. -------------------- Einstein is my lab partner

I had the feeling Bulldog would be seen again, but no sign of it yet (and they are so over time budget each ep it seems less likely each episode). In a larger sense, though I don't mind the "stand-alones" if they fill in some bit of background or stories about aspects of the RTF we've never seen. -------------------- "It is worse than a crime; it is a mistake." -- Tallyrand, 1804 |

You feel that the actions in "Hero" (not Heroes) don't have any ramifications on the story as a whole? How about Adama's personal guilt? To reply Adama's personal guilt seems only to appear in this episode. We never hear about his mission again nor do we see Bulldog again and there is no real explanation as to why the Cylons held him as a prisoner for three years and why they suddenly let Bulldog go. True Tigh moves on but the business of him becoming XO again is just hinted at and there is no indication that Helo has been demoted or Helo's reaction to his demotion which was deserved after the way he disobeyed orders and killed the infected Cylons before they could download. It does feel very bity and not put together properly as if the show is trying to cover too much ground and it may be better with more time to write shoot and edit the episodes and less pressure since they do not have to produce so many episodes |
